What is therapeutic hypnosis?

Therapeutic hypnosis involves accessing a modified state of consciousness, also known as a "trance," to bring about a change desired by the person seeking help from the hypnotherapist. There are several techniques, including Ericksonian hypnosis, humanistic hypnosis, visualization, etc. Each therapist works according to their preferred methods.

The difference between stage hypnosis and therapeutic hypnosis lies not in the techniques used but in the goal: one aims to entertain, while the other aims to help bring about lasting change in the client. A therapist has no interest in making you act like a chicken in their office!

Myths and preconceptions about hypnosis are widespread. Rest assured, the modified state of consciousness or “trance” is a very natural phenomenon accessible to humans. Just think about those moments spent “daydreaming” or when you wonder if you passed a certain place while driving. See? It happens to us frequently.

The basic premise for therapeutic hypnosis to have concrete effects is, of course, that the client wants and desires the change they are asking for. The subconscious will only execute the change if it aligns with the client’s goals and values.

With hypnosis, it is possible to improve stress and anxiety management, strengthen self-confidence and self-esteem, alleviate chronic pain, improve sleep quality, increase concentration capacity, break harmful life patterns, quit smoking, lose weight, give birth under hypnosis, free oneself from phobias and excessive fears, etc. In fact, therapeutic hypnosis has no limits except those we impose on ourselves!
